Abstract一. 教育的功能,不管是改變人之思想,改變人之行為而言;其根本之源在于改造人之心性,而在改造人心,人性之時,對心性之論,自古中外即有許多不同之見解 -- 性善,性惡. 然而,若對人心,人性無有一真實之認知,則由此發展出之教育理念,亦必然不足以擔任改變人心,人性之功能,是故須對心性之本質做一理解.
二. 佛教對心性有所謂業力緣起說,賴耶緣起,如來藏緣起,法界緣起說……等基本之思想學說,而諸學說之共同目的,都在建立修行佛道之理論架構,佛法的實踐理則,就是依止于此等緣起說上.
三. 佛法在實踐方法上,不外是止觀,以除斷煩惱. 然而,對所除斷的煩惱就是主探討的問題. 煩惱的種類,有根本煩惱與隨煩惱之不同,或根本無明與枝末無明之不同. 從煩惱的種類,特性,反襯來了解心性的特質.
四. 在理解了心性煩惱後,就是心性之直接運作. 在運轉心性之過程方法,及所達到之境界中,也是間接的了解了心性之本質. 比如:四禪八定,四無量心乃至四果等,在在都可以看出佛法對心性之淨化特質.
五. 佛法對心性的看法,迥異于世俗之角度,最重要的是 -- 世俗中始終是以我為出發,而終未能脫離我之思想,亦不能徹底淨化生命之心性,而佛法除掌握了禪定對心性淨化之功能,亦徹底打破了生染污煩惱根源 -- -「我見」.
