Abstract | Pu-zu (普足),called Qing-shui zu-shi (清水祖師),or Wu-mian zu-shi (烏面祖師) was believed by the peoples, especially in Fu-jian (福建) and Tai-wan (台灣). The details of worship and legend of Pu-zu were written in "Gods of Dao-jiao (道教の神々)" by Kubo Noritada (窪德忠).
But Pu-zu's original image is not so clear nor accurate. When we researched the way of worship of Pu-zu,many of the participators expected the worldly profit. So we are under an illusion that he was a God of Dao-jiao.
Of course,he was evidently a Buddhist-priest.
In this paper I make better use "An-xi Qing-shui-yan zhi (安溪清水巖志)" and throw light on his original image.
Moreover in September 1999,I visited to Qing-shui yan in An-xi,Fu-jian,so that I can report the present condition and appearances. |
