Keyword佛教量論=Buddhist epistemology; 為他比量=the comparative act for the others; 比知翻譯=translation type with a direct promise; 喻知翻譯=translation type with non-direct promise; 不可譯性=untranslatability

This paper, based upon the Buddhist epistemology, determines the essence of translation first, and points out that the essence is one of comparative acts for the others. Accoroding to this, two translation types are drawn out: known by comparison and known by figuration. The type of known by comparison means that it is one of the transmissional behaviors in language with a directive promise in advance, and known by the figuration is with non directive promise. This paper, based upon the Buddhist epistemology, analyzes the problem of untranslatability, and points out that the untranslatability is the appearances of agnosticism or skepiticism in the translation field because of its errors in epistemology.
