Abstract新造的靈山大佛在“無錫馬山祥符寺開光,引起了不小的反響。這尊花費1億元鉅款的錫與青銅雕鑄的大佛,高達88米,聳立在馬山下祥符寺建築的頂上。由於它不僅與所處的周圍環境不諧調,而且造型比例失調,形象淺俗,因而引起不少非議。我們認為,它在設計的很多方面,確實存在著有待商榷的地方。從西漢末年佛教傳入中國以來,佛教的造像藝術真實地記載了兩千年佛文化在我國的興衰歷程。佛像及其它浮圖廣布名山大川之間,石窟寶刹之內。形成了極為普遍的人文景點。其中如大同的雲崗石窟、洛陽的龍門石窟、四川樂山大佛、天水麥積山石窟、甘肅敦煌莫高窟等,已成為人類共有的珍貴遺產。透過文化傳統我們不難發現,佛文化體系為佛教的造像提供了依據和遵循的原則。作為佛文化在我國的傳承,它也帶有中華民族傳統的人文色彩,這是外來佛文化與本土儒道文化融合的結果。這種文化精神直接影響著歷史造像藝術的“緣起”,佛教信士強調興塔、構寺、造像是芸芸眾生歸依佛法、漸入義方的重要階梯。劉溉的《滅惑記》中寫道:「夫塔寺之興,闡揚靈教,功立一時,而道被千載。」說的是浮圖對於弘教的巨大功績。

The newly-established towering statue of Buddha at the Xiangfu Temple in Mashan mountain, Wuxi city, Jiangsu province has attracted much reproach. The statue is criticized principally for its inconsistency with surrounding environment, out of proportion, image lack of sagacity and artistic magic power.
