AbstractApart from in Japan,Dun huang and Turfan collections in other countries have long been known to the outside world. Recently, 3 volumes of manuscripts from the Nakamura collection in Tokyo, Japan have been published, revealing the manuscripts to scholarly circles.
This paper will introduce number 77 In volum e 2, the first juan of the Suvar¬
Aprabhāsottamasūtra, number 84 in volume 2, the sixth juan of the Suva
r¬aprabhāsottamasūtra , number 155 In volume 3, the fourth juan in a Northern Liang Suvar¬aprabh āsottamasūtra, number 166 in volume3, the third juan of
a Suvar aprabhāsottamasūtra from the six dynasties period
. The first two are from Dunhuang, the last two are from Turfan. Number 77, the first juan of the Suvar-rabhāsottamasūtra, has acolophon dating it to Chang’an year 3, and the text of the colophon is exactly the same as that of Or.8210/S.4268. In Fu Zengxiang’s old collection there is also a similar colophon, the only difference being That new characters created in the Wuzhou period are used.Or.8210/S.523 and Or .8210/S.3870 also have similar colophons. With the same dates, it seems these manuscripts we recopied around the same time. Furthermore, am on
g Dunhuang manuscripts,t he earliest recorded manuscript of the sutra (2nd juan) is P.4506 dated to “Huangxing 5thyear” (471 AD), and the 2nd juan of the sutra from Turfanat the Xinjiang Museum is dated to 430 AD. Thus number 155 in volume 3, the fourth juan in a Northern Liang Suvar¬ aprabhāsott ,am asūtra can reveal much about the period just after the translation by Dharma raksha (385 AD-433 AD)during the Northern Liang, showing that although the above are fragments, they have great research value.
