This paper tries to take the whole collection of the Dīgha Nikāya and Dīrgha Agama as group texts by using new methodology to be a special stance, to examine the issue of four jhanas. The attempt is to study each relevant text, through thorough analysis, and argue that whether the four jhānas are non-Buddhist's initiative and practiced by them, or lean to support the view that they are more likely to be practiced distinctively by Buddhists, and hence innovation of the Buddha. This conclusion is based on comprehensive reading of existing evidences, and substantial evaluation on controversial passages.
