Abstract | A biography of Kyōnyo Shōnin (1558-1614), the twelfth chief priest of the Honganji, is presented. He was Kennyo's eldest son and was born on September 16, 1558 in Osaka, Japan in Ishiyama Honganji were he lived until adolescence. He became the first of the new Higashi Honganji and dedicated the majority of his life as the head of the Buddhist temple and in the preservation of the monastery. Kyonyo died on October 5, 1614 at the age of 57. |
