Abstract Abstract The work of classification of the Western Xia caves of Dunhuang begun in the 1960s.In recent tens years,the new materials have been constanlly published.The deficiencies ofthe original conclusion of the classification are hard to avoid.So it is necessary to correct theoriginal conclusion in which the chronological sequence of the western Xian caves fell intothree stages.Now according to the new materials and achivements,is should fall into twostages;earlies stage and later stage.We have diffrentiated Shazhou Uygur caves from thosebelong to the caves of the second stage in the original conclusion.If we want to ascertain theages of the caves in the same group as cave 130.we must make a concrete analysis of con-crete conditions of inscriptions,painting styles of caves.
