Abstract | Longmen Grottoes 龍門石窟 were built between the fifthe and the eighth century, over a period of nearly three hundred years. The remains today still reflect vividly the intense vitality of the people and the free merging of races and cultures of the time. Many of theremaining sculptures and murals have Buddhist themes and are the works of artists from the Five Minorities: Xingnu 匈奴, Xianbei 鮮卑, Jie 羯, Di 氐, and Qiang 羌. They show a vigorous civilization in progress, and provide valuable background to the study of ancient Chinese history.
十六國前後,我國北方地區的民族交往進入了一個空前紛繁的時期。在此期間,馳騁漠北的諸多遊牧民族,或以生計所迫,迭興武事,率落南下﹔或以嚮慕風化,迤灑遷徙,與漢雜居,從而與黃河流域為主體的中原國家發生了一系列影響深遠的政治聯繫。 與此同時,入臻華夏的印度佛教,由於其”輪迴報應”、”省慾去奢”的宗教教義日漸得到各族統治階層的注重與提倡,因此在戰事頻仍、人心思寧的中華大地獲得了長足的發展。我國北方地區佛教經像寺塔的日趨繁盛,就發生在這民族與文化相互衝突的廣闊社會背景之下,而龍門石窟正是這繽紛多緻的佛教造型藝術中著名的一處。 |
