The brocade scarf( a piece of long brocade cloth covering over the back of the shoulders) is a kind of popular clothing introduced to China by West Asian cultures by way of the Silk Road and the development of Chinese costumes. The brocade scarves found along the Silk Road reflect the prosperity of the silk trade that flourished in China’s past. The scarves discovered in Dunhuang and Turfan are nearly identical with those discovered in the Central Plains, especially in Xi’an(namely Chang’an) in the Tang dynasty. They belong to the same historical period and have undergone a similar development process of mutual inheritance and assimilation. |
