Abstract分佈於絲綢之路上的大小佛教石窟為研究佛教的傳播以及中西文化交流史提供了豐富的資料,然而這些石窟的修建時間在學術界還存在一些爭議,要更好地發掘這些石窟背後的發展脈絡和價值,就必須建立一套高精度的年代序列。本文以敦煌莫高窟為例,將石窟紀年銘文、考古相對年代與大量高精度碳十四數據結合,利用貝葉斯算法,不僅將敦煌莫高窟早期三窟(第268/272/275)的始建年代進一步精確,還更加全面地展現單個石窟(敦煌莫高窟第285窟)的開鑿營建史(生命歷程)。這一研究方法和思路可以進一步拓展至河西走廊或整個絲綢之路上的石窟群,由此建立的年代序列不僅對研究佛教在中國的傳播和發展有重要意義,還可以為探索絲綢之路上其他文化交流提供參考。

The Buddhist caves along the Silk Road have provided a tremendous amount of first-hand material for studying the cultural interaction between the east and the west. However, a finer chronological framework is required in order to advance our understanding of the underlying development and historic value of the culture of this area. Taking the Mogao Grottoes at Dunhuang as an example, this paper attempts to combine inscriptions, relative chronological studies, and a large number of radiocarbon dates using the Bayesian algorithm(OxCal). This method allows us to further improve the chronological understanding of Caves 268,272 and 274 at Dunhuang and sketch the construction history of cave 285. Because of the similarities in construction dates and cultural content, it can be argued that this methodology can be effectively extended to the studies of many other Buddhist caves along the Silk Road and that the use of the Bayesian algorithm may further contribute to the research of Chinese Buddhism and the cultural interaction along the Silk Road.
