Abstract | This article studies certain aspects of the complicated process of making and remaking a key Buddhist sacred site in present-day Beijing, Fangshan. It brings to the fore several fundamental elements, both religious and non-religious, that contributed to the formation and transformation of a sacred site in premodern China. |
