Abstract大乘佛教中的華嚴哲學與源自古希臘和希伯萊宗教的西方哲學,產生於不同的思維土壤,呈現出哲學各個層面、各種維度的同與異。西方哲學和華嚴宗哲學從各自根本的觀念出發,形成龐大而精密的理論體系,反映出本體論的異同。無論從思辨哲學還是宗教哲學的角度,兩者的基本立場盡管不同,都試圖克服和超越二元論思維模式,反映出宇宙論、知識論、目的論乃至價值論的異同。方東美先生對華嚴哲學和西方哲學之間的關係採取圓融的論斷,批判傳統西方哲學中的「二分」方法造成了知識與價值、理想與現實的「乖離」,認同現代西方哲學強調本體與價值的統一。華嚴哲學兼容宗教、哲學和科學,這是能夠與西方哲學圓融的基礎。
