Abstract法藏法師在《大乘起信論義記》中約「真如門」言「止」,約「生滅門」言「觀」。以「一心二門」來統攝「止觀俱行」,並援引智者大師之「止觀」思想對《起信論》所提及的「止觀門」做了進一步的充實和闡釋。他指出,修止須具足五緣,正修有「坐中修」(靜)和「餘威儀」(動)兩種情形,鑒別正邪之「止」有「依定研磨」「依本修治」「智慧觀察」三種方法,只有「理定」即「真如三昧」才是正定。修觀有法相觀、大悲觀、大願觀、精進觀四個階段。分別說修止修觀只是一種方便之說,真正的修止觀,即止觀俱行。
