| Abstract | 한반도에 자리 잡은 불교를 ‘한국불교’라 한다. 특수성이 인정되기 때문이다. 이런 특수성을 살펴볼 수 있는 분야를 꼽는다면 단연 儀式이다. 의식에는 연극이나 영화처럼 종합예술적 성격이 있다. 본 논문은 한국불교권에만 있는 법구 ‘將軍竹篦’에 관한 연구다.
장군죽비는 40～50cm 정도의 일반 죽비와 달리 11㎝×180㎝×2㎝ 정도의 기다란 나무판으로 조성되어 있다. 표면에는 세로로 ‘守口攝意身莫犯 如是行者能得道’라 쓰고 그 밑에는 여래의 三密을 표상하는 種子(bīja) 唵⋅阿⋅吽3자를 梵字로 써넣어 대웅전이나 대방의 어간 문설주 두 곳에 한 짝씩 걸어 놓는다.
현재 영산재 보존사찰인 봉원사에서 「저녁예불」과 「식당작법」에 활용되고 있음을 확인하였고, 지금은 볼 수 없지만 「시련절차」 「하단관욕」 「간당작법」등에도 중요한 역할이 있었음을 『작법귀감』과 『범음산보집』을 통해 살펴볼 수 있었다.
이미 그 존재가 거의 잊혀져 아는 이 적고, 심지어 사전에서조차 잘 못 설명되고 있음이 실정인데 이를 지적할 수 있게 되어 다행스럽다. 이번 연구가 이미 멸실되었거나 그럴 위기에 있는 선조사 스님들의 성업을 발굴⋅복원하는데 박차를 가하는 계기가 되었으면 한다.
We call a buddhism in Korean peninsula 'the Korean buddhism'. It means that we admit the distinct characteristics of Korean buddhism. We can consider the buddhist ceremony to be one of the most distinctive characteristics. The buddhist ceremony has the character of composite art like the movie or the play.
This research is about ‘Jangkun-Jukbbi’ which exists only in the Korean buddhist culture. Jangkun-Jukbbi consists of long wood board of 11cm×180cm×12cm, ‘守口攝意身莫犯 如是行者能得道’ is written on the surface and 唵(oṃ)⋅阿(a)⋅吽(hūṃ) is written in Sanskrit on the lower part. Those are hung on doorposts of the main building and the
Daebang.
Jangkun-Jukbbi is used in Sikdang-jakbub and Evening buddhist service at Bongwonsa-Youngsanjae preservation temple. It also played a important role in Syrieon-julcha Hadan-Kwanyok and Gandang-jakbub, which is described in Jakbub-gwuigam and BeomeumsanboJib.
This research reminds people of Jangkun-Jukbbi which is almost vanished in people's mind and explained wrong in even dictionary. I hope this research could be a opportunity to reconstruct the ancestor monk's achievements in a crisis of extinguish. |
