| Abstract | 「廅樓亘」是漢地對觀音的最早音譯，但這個詞的來源卻一直不為人所知。本文首先考察了「廅樓亘」在不同版本中的用字情況，又考察了每個字的不同讀音，從而確立了材料的可靠性。在此基礎上，根據梵漢對音的常見規律以及印度語音的演變規則，可知：（1）「廅」對應的原語是*av(a)，其中，因為發音部位相同，所以「廅」的入聲韻尾[-p]對應-v-；（2）「樓」對應的原語是*-lo-；（3）「亘」對應的原語是*-śva(r)，其中，因為音值相近，所以「亘」的聲母[s-]對應原語的 ś-，鼻音韻尾[-n]對應原語的-r。總之，「廅樓亘」對應的原語應類似於*av(a)...lo...śva(r)的形式。需要注意的是，這個形式更接近於晚期梵語寫本中的 avalokiteśvara（觀在），而不是早期的 avalokitasvara（觀音）。
E Lou Xuan 廅樓亘 is the earliest transcription of avalokiteśvara in Chinese Buddhist texts. The cause of its formation is still unknown to us. This paper examines the different words of E Lou Xuan 廅樓亘 in different editions and examines the different pronunciations of each word. In terms of the general rules of Sanskrit-Chinese transcription and the evolution of Indian language, my conclusion is that (1) 廅 corresponds to *av(a) and the final consonant [-p] of 廅 corresponds to -v-, because the position of articulation is the same; (2) 樓 corresponds to * lo-; (3) 亘 corresponds to *-śva(r) and the final nasal [-n] of 亘 corresponds to -r-, because in the underlying language the sound value of r and n is close. In short, I think the original form of 廅樓亘 is *av(a)...lo...śva(r). This form is closer to the Sanskrit word avalokiteśvara, which is seen in the later Sanskrit manuscripts than to avalokitasvara which is found in the earlier ones. |
