| Abstract | 唐代社會寬松的文化政策促使佛教興盛,寺僧深厚的儒學基礎、詩賦才藝和強大的政治影響力,與新興的科舉選官制度相結合,使寺僧和舉子的交流和互動成為唐代社會中一種獨特的社會文化現象。互動方式有二:其一是寺僧與舉子之間相互提攜,互惠互利。舉子以寺僧為師、向寺僧行卷謀求科考成功;寺僧則通過才學技藝、出謀劃策和直接干預科舉等幫助舉子。其二是遁離人世的寺僧反初還俗參與科考,與此同時,數度落第舉子日漸消沉遁入空門。兩者之間的互動是中國古代社會特有的一種文化現象,它是唐代高度發達的佛教和日漸成熟的科舉選士相結合的產物,是佛教中國化或者說儒化的一種特殊表現形式。
The free cultural policies in the Tang Dynasty promoted the thriving of Buddhism. The monks’ solid Confucianism basis,poetry talent and strong political influence,combined with the emerging imperial official selection system,made the communication and interaction between the monks and the candidates become a unique social and cultural phenomenon in the Tang Dynasty. There were two interactive modes: the first one was the mutual support and mutual benefit between them. The candidates took the monks as their teachers,seeking the success in imperial examinations by presenting their works to the monks,and the monks rendered their help to the candidates by sharing their learning skills,giving counsel and making a direct intervention. The second one was that Buddhist monks who were detached from this world resumed secular life and participated in the imperial examination,while the candidates who suffered several failures in the examination became increasingly depressed and turned to Buddhism. The interaction between them was a peculiar social and cultural phenomenon in ancient China,and it was the product of highly developed Buddhism getting combined with increasingly mature imperial examinations in the Tang Dynasty.In other words,it is a special form of expression of the sinicization of Buddhism. |
