| Abstract | 학문과 학문연구의 과정에는 고유의 바탕 속에서 익혀온 전통학, 서양의 학문을 들여온 수입학과 그것과의 비교와 대비와 대결을 거쳐 옳고 그름을 따지는 시비학, 시비학의 기반을 넘어 창발적 해석지평을 연 창조학의 단계를 거친다. 근대 이전 한중일 삼국의 불교학은 전통학의 맹주로서만 머물러 있었다. 중국의 양원후이와 탕용퉁, 천위안, 일본의 난죠 분유와 다카쿠스 준치로, 한국의 이능화와 조명기 등은 전통학인 불교학을 수입학과 시비학의 통로를 거쳐 창조학으로 나아가게 한 이들이다. 그들은 각기 수입학과 전통학의 경계 위에서 ‘해석학’과 ‘문헌학’ 및 ‘고증학’의 방법론을 원용하면서도 시비학과 창조학의 경계 위에서 ‘근대성 담론’과 ‘호국론’ 및 ‘통(通)불교론’을 펼쳐나갔다. 그리하여 그들은 불교와 불교학 혹은 불학과 불교연구의 경계를 의식하면서 수입학과 시비학의 방법론을 활용하였다. 이제 근대 이후 현대의 삼국 불교학자들 역시 다시 앞 시대 선학들이 고민해온 수입학과 시비학을 넘어 전통학을 의식하면서 창조학을 고민해야 할 때가 되었다.
Several steps exist in study and its process. Previously, the Buddhist studies of three countries have accepted traditional science studies without questions. Yang Wen-Wui(楊文會), Tang Yong-Tung(湯用彤) and Chun Wian(陳垣) of China, Nanjyo-Bunyu(南條文雄) and Takakus-Juntsiro(高楠順次郞) of Japan and Lee Neung-Hwa(李能和) and Jo Myung-Gi(趙明基) of Korea are representative people, who evolved Buddhist study into creative science studies via the pass of import science studies and propriety science studies. They quoted the methodologies of ‘Hermeneutic’, ‘Philology’ and ‘Exegetics’ on the boundary between import science studies and traditional science studies and displayed 'Modern discussion', ‘discourse on nation-protecting(護國論)’ and ‘discourse on integration of Buddhism(通佛敎論)’ on the boundary between propriety science studies and creative science studies. Therefore, they used the methodologies of import science studies and propriety science studies while considering the boundary between Buddhism and Buddhist study. Now, it is time for present Buddhist scholars of three countries to consider traditional science studies and make efforts for creative science studies beyond import science studies and propriety science studies, which were the agonies of previous scholars.
