Abstract | 本文要在就《南齊書》敘事中的佛教元素,探勘史臣蕭子顯佛教受容之特點。作為一部當代人撰寫的當代史,《南齊書》因附會佛教、緯書而於後世有「牽於時尚,未能釐正」之評。經統計,《南齊書》中的佛教元素,散見於該書之政治、社會、學術、士人生活、物質文化等記述,不下六十餘處。這些資料,分布在短暫廿四年的南齊王朝(479-502)發展脈絡中,密度之高,可謂南朝正史之最,正是佛教文化長期影響中國傳統社會相融下之縮影。其間「去扁平化」的佛教敘事,流露出對當代政治、社會的微諷之意,卻也是基於蕭梁文化正統之高度(此亦為「時尚」)與傳統史觀交涉下的筆書,正道出五世紀末「永明佛教」的實情。而此間諸如〈高逸列傳〉中,透過「夷夏論爭」的記錄,導出篇末「服膺釋氏,深信冥緣」的史臣自道,並衍申出其「佛」統「九流」之獨特判教思維;乃至相關敘事中的「聖」與「俗」之辨,也都讓宗教小傳統與政教大歷史的交涉,成為此間多音複響的風景。
This study explores the Buddhist view of the historic courtier Xiao Zixian based on the Buddhist narration of the Book of Southern Qi. As contemporary history written by modern people, Book of Southern Qi mixed the elements of Buddhism with the writings of secret principles of prophecyominous so that the later generations criticize it as “following the trend and neglecting the errors.” According to statistics, Buddhist elements in Book of Southern Qi are shown in the descriptions of politics, society, academy, scholars’ lives, and material culture, and are mentioned more than 60 times. The abovementioned materials were distributed over the short history of the Southern Qi dynasty (479-502). The amount of mentioned Buddhist elements was the highest in the official history of the Southern dynasties, which is considered an epitome of how the Buddhist culture impacted on the traditional Chinese society. What the political and social criticism has shown is the interaction with the traditional historical view upon cultural legitimacy of the Liang Xiao dynasty. It reveals the situation of Yongming Buddhism at the end of the fifth century.
