| Abstract | 본 논문에서는 念佛보다는 禪에 중점을 두어 念佛禪을 禪수행법의 한 타이프를 지칭하는 의미로 국한해서 살펴보고자 한다. 이는 救援論, 다시 말해, 깨달음을 논의하는데 있어서 念佛하고 念佛禪을 구분해서 생각하지 않으면 안 되기 때문이다. 본 논문은 初期禪宗의 여러 문헌에서 念佛禪에서의 깨달음을 어떻게 정의했는지를 먼저 조사해보고 그 다음에 이 것이 8세기에 크게 유행한 菩薩戒운동과 무슨 관련이 있는가를 살펴보기로 하겠다.
In discussing the concept of enlightenment, this paper will focus on the way in which this concept was used in buddha-mindfulness meditation rather than in popular practice of the mindfulness or the recitation of the name of the buddha. This distinction is necessary because, as this paper hopes to show, their respective soteriologies differ significantly. What I hope to do first is to briefly discuss the various ways in which early Chan authors redefined the practice of being mindful or reciting the name of the buddha and then situate these efforts to redefine this practice against the larger background of the bodhisattva precepts rituals that become very popular during the eighth century.
