Abstract본고는 『금강삼매경』의 핵심 가르침 중의 하나인 ‘존삼수일설’에 대해서 살펴보고 있다. 「입실제품」에 등장하는 존삼수일설은 모두 ‘존삼해탈’, ‘수일심여’, ‘입여래선’의 3가지 수행으로 구성되어 있다. 이들은 이입(理入)이라고 하는 『금강삼매경』의 수행단계에 해당되는데, 존삼해탈은 십신에서 십주까지, 수일심여는 십행, 입여래선은 십회향에 각각 배당되는 정교한 수행체계를 가지고 있다. 첫째, ‘존삼해탈(存三解脫)’의 체(體)인 ‘세 가지 해탈[三解脫]’이란, 문혜(聞慧), 사혜(思慧), 수혜(修慧)이라는 세 가지 지혜를 닦아서, 그 결과 허공해탈(虛空解脫), 금강해탈(金剛解脫), 반야해탈(般若解脫)이라는 세 가지 해탈을 성취하는 것이다. 또한, ‘존삼해탈’의 용(用)인 ‘간직한다[存]’는 것은, 선정에서 나와 세상일을 마주 대했을 때에도 선정에서 닦은 그 마음을 그대로 유지하는 것을 말한다. 둘째, ‘수일심여(守一心如)’의 체(體)인 ‘한 마음의 진여[一心如]’란 대승기신론에서 말하는 일심법의 2가지 법 중에서 심생멸문이 아닌 심진여문(心眞如門)을 가리킨다. 또한, ‘수일심여’의 용(用)인 ‘지킨다[守]’란 수행자가 선정에 들어있거나 선정에서 나오거나 할 것 없이 수일심여의 체인 ‘심진여문’ 혹은 ‘중도(中道)’를 가슴에 항상 담아두고 지키는 것을 말한다. 셋째, ‘입여래선(入如來禪)’의 체(體)인 ‘이관삼매(理觀三昧)’란 무엇이 옳다거나 그르다거나 하는 분별심이 없는 상태를 가리킨다. 또한, ‘입여래선’ 용(用)인 ‘관(觀)’이란 선정에 들어가 진제를 관찰하여 참모습을 관조하더라도 중도라는 하나의 상에 머물지 않고, 선정 밖으로 나와 속제를 관찰하여 중생을 교화하더라도 얻거나 잃음이 없는 활동을 말한다.

This paper studies on the theory of preserving the three and guarding the one in Vājrasamādhi Sūtra. The theory consists of three practices: preserving the three liberations, guarding the one mind of suchness, and accessing the tathāgathadhyāna. The stages of the access of principle, which is shown in Vājrasamādhi Sūtra, can be divided into three parts: the stages of ten faiths to ten abidings in preserving the three liberations, the stages of ten practices in guarding the one mind of suchness, and the stages of ten returns in accessing the tathāgathadhyāna. Firstly, the essence of the preserving three liberations is the state of accomplishing the three liberations: the liberation of space, the liberation of diamond, and the liberation of prajñā. These three liberations can be attained by cultivating the three kinds of wisdom: the wisdom of hearing, the wisdom of thinking, and the wisdom of practicing. And the function of the preserving three liberation means reserving the same mind which is practiced in the state of meditation when the practitioner comes out of the meditation and meets the people and things in the world. Secondly, the essence of guarding the one mind of suchness is the mind of the aspect of suchness in The Awakening of the Mahāyāna Faith which is famous for the teaching, “One mind has two kinds of aspects: the aspect of suchness and the aspect of arising and ceasing.” And the function of guarding the one mind of suchness means keeping always the mind of aspect of suchness or the middle way (mādhyamika) which is the essence of guarding the one mind of suchness in the state of meditation or in the middle of the world. Thirdly, the essence of accessing the tathāgathadhyāna is the state of no mind of discrimination, which divides right things with wrong things and splits this things with that things, which can be seen easily in the ordinary people’s mind. And the function of accessing the tathāgathadhyāna means activities that the practitioner don’t stay in having the one mark even though finding the middle way in the state of meditation and don’t gain or lose the one mark even though enlightening the ordinary people out of the meditation.
