| Abstract | 중생들은 즐거움을 추구하다가 고통을 만나면 괴로움에서 벗어나기 위해 수행을 생각한다. 선구자이신 붓다께서 힘들어하는 중생들에게 벗어나는 수행법을 설하셨다. 붓다의 뜻을 이은 원효는 깨달음을 얻은 뒤, 자비를 갖춘 대승 보살의 수행을 설명한다. 불법의 수행이라고 하면 지(止)·관(觀)[사마타·비파사나]을 대다수의 사람들이 생각할 것이다. 그렇다면 “지관수행(止觀修行)만으로 불법(佛法)을 성취할 수 있는가”라는 것이 이 논문의 중점이다. 보살은 ‘상구보리(上求菩提) 하화중생(下化衆生)’을 향해 끊임없이 나아가는 사람이다. 마치 목적지에 가기 위해서는 정확한 지도가 있어야 하는 것과 같이, 실제 어떤 수행을 해야만 과연 불도를 성취할 수 있는지에 대해 체계를 바르게 알아야만 한다. 이에 원효의 『기신론소』와 『금강삼매경론』을 중심으로 하여 대승 보살의 수행 체계를 연구하고자 한다. 불교의 세계관에 따르면 기세간(器世間)에 중생세간(衆生世間)과 지정각세간(智正覺世間)이 교차하고 있는데, 이 중생세간에서 지정각세간으로 가기 위해서는 바른 믿음[正信], 지(止), 관(觀), 대비(大悲)의 네 가지가 필요하다. 이 네 가지가 서로 유기적으로 작용하여 불법의 대해(大海)로 진입하여 건널 수 있게 한다. 지정각세간(智正覺世間)으로 이른 후에는 다시 중생세간(衆生世間)으로 되돌아와서 출세간의 지혜와 바라밀행을 통해 만행(萬行)과 만덕(萬德)을 쌓아서 성불(成佛)의 길로 나아가게 된다.
When the unenlightened multitude seek pleasure and encounter pain, they take practice into account to escape suffering. The pioneer, Buddha, has preached the method of practice regarding how to get away from the suffering of the common people. Wonhyo, who followed Buddha's teachings and got enlightened, explains the performance of the Mahāyāna Bodhisattva equipped with Maitrī-karuṇā. When it comes to the practice of Buddha-dharma, the majority of people will think of cessation and observation(samatha and vipassanā). If so, the focus of this paper is on “whether we can achieve Buddha-dharma only through the practice of cessation and observation.” A Bodhisattva is a person who continues to move toward ‘seeking enlightenment above, transforming sentient beings below.’ Just as if you need an accurate map to go to your destination, you claim to know the right system of what kind of performance you have to do to accomplish the Buddha-way. Therefore, the writer will investigate the practice system of the Mahāyāna Bodhisattva, focusing on Wonhyo's books, Commentary on the Awakening of Mahāyāna Faith and Wonhyo's Exposition of the Vajrasamādhi Sūtra. According to world views of Buddhism, the sentient world is intersected with the enlightened world of Buddhas in the insentient world. In order to reach the enlightened world of Buddhas from the sentient world, four things are needed: correct faith, samatha, vipassanā and great compassion. These four things work organically with one another, allowing people to enter and cross the seas of the Buddha-dharma. After amounting to the enlightened world of Buddhas, the enlightened one will return to the sentient world and move on to the path of the Buddhahood by attaining all practices and myriad virtues through the wisdom of the supramundane world and the practice of the six pāramitās. |
