| Abstract | 본 논문은 서구 자아초월심리학의 선구자 중 한 사람인 아싸지올리의 정신통합을 불교 수행의 관점에서 비교 분석하고자 했다. 정신통합은 서구 정신분석 전통과 동양 신비주의 전통의 정신 모델을 통합하는 하나의 시도라고 할 수 있다. 아싸지올리는 전통적인 정신분석 전통으로부터 하위 무의식과 집단 무의식을, 동양의 요가 전통으로부터 상위 무의식과 초월적 자기의 관념을 끌어들였다. 정신통합 모델에서는 동일시-탈동일시-동일시의 역동적 과정을 통해 경험에 지배당하고 있는 동일시된 자기로부터 경험을 초월한 초월적 자기로의 성장을 도모한다. 이 논문에서는 정신통합이 제시하고 있는 여러 개념 중 특히, 동일시-탈동일시의 과정, 초월적 자기, 그리고 상위무의식을 불교 수행의 관점에서 비교 고찰한다. 동일시-탈동일시 과정은 불교의 사띠 및 선 수행과 비교했으며, 초월적 자기는 존재의 무근거성의 자각이라는 불교수행의 관점에서, 그리고 상위무의식은 지혜와 자비라는 본성의 발현이라는 관점에서 비판적으로 조명했다.
This study aims to review Assagioli’s psychosynthesis theory from the perspectives of Buddhist practices. The psychosynthesis theory is derived from transpersonal psychology, and it represents a trial to integrate Western psychoanalytic theory with Eastern philosophies. Assagioli combined the concepts of the lower unconsciousness and the collective unconsciousness from traditional psychoanalytic theory with the concepts of the higher unconsciousness and the transpersonal self from Eastern yoga traditions. The psychosynthesis model demonstrates that self can grow as transpersonal self by transcending the identified self that is dominated by the experiences of the dynamics of the identification-disidentification process. This study particularly indicates the similarities and differences between Assagioli’s psychosynthesis theory and the perspectives of Buddhist practices with respect to the identification- disidentification process, transpersonal self, and higher unconsciousness. We compared the identification-disidentification process to Buddhist Sati and Seon practices and reviewed the transpersonal self from the perspective of nonbeing. Finally, we critically explored the higher unconsciousness from the perspective of the wise and compassionate mind in the Buddhist traditions. |
