Abstract "內丹"這一術語,最早見于天臺宗三祖南岳慧思《立誓愿文》"藉外丹力修內丹"。"內丹"一詞的出現,最初似來自佛教徒。相對六朝盛行的道教徒通過草木或鉛汞的"外丹"修煉,佛教徒將自身的禪修或觀想念佛視為"內丹",兩者都同樣被視為追求長生的方法,而且"內丹"更為重要和本根,才是大仙方;而在佛教徒看來,"外丹"只是為修煉"內丹"的一個準備,或曰"護法",類似于天臺止觀的"前方便"。道教外丹向內丹的轉變,受到了佛教心性學說的刺激,本文對六朝道性學說的產生和演變進行了探討;并從"三一論"的角度對六朝道教中精、氣、神的問題進行了探討,天臺智■提倡中假空三諦圓融,與道教"三一圓者"的論述方式,頗有異曲同工之妙。道性、精氣神三一學說,都為日后道教內丹的興起奠定了重要的理論基礎。
