| Abstract | 동아시아에 전래된 불교경전은 대다수 인도의 범어원전을 번역한 것으로, 초기의 역경가에는 범어에 조예가 깊은 인도인 혹은 서역인이 많았다. 중국인에 의한 본격적이고 대표적인 역경은 현장에 의해 이루어지고, 그에 의해 번역용어도 새롭게 정리되었다. 그렇지만 이렇게 번역된 불교전적 가운데 정작 범어에 관한 저술은 그다지 많지 않다. 이렇게 소수의 전적 가운데 현존 대장경에 수록된 범자에 관한 체계적인 저술로 후대에 많은 영향을 끼친 것이 실담자기이다. 지광에 의해 저술된 실담자기는 범어 자모음의 결합법칙과 발음 등을 상세히 기록한 책으로, 특히 일본에 점해져 ‘실담학’의 초석이 되기도 하였다. 실담자기가 우리나라에 전래되었는지에 대해서는 의문이지만, 이 실담자기에 나타나는 실담문자에 대한 설명은 우리나라 진언집에서도 나타나고 있다. 조선시대 최초로 간행된 안심사본 진언집은 그러한 실담문자에 대한 설명과 이해를 보여주는 중요한 전적으로, 그러한 내용을 전하는 <실담장>은 후대 간행된 모든 진언집에 전승되고 있다. 본논문은 <실담장>에 나타나는 범어 자모음의 한자음의 연원과 범자에 대한 <실담장> 해석의 기원을 살펴본 것으로, 이를 통해 우리나라 선조의 범자 이해를 고찰하려고 한 것이다. 이러한 고찰을 통해 <실담장>에 나타나는 범자의 한자음 표기는 중국에서 활약한 역경가인 不空의 범어 한자음 표기와 상당히 유사한 점을 알 수 있었고, 아울러 <실담장>에서의 범자에 대한 해석도 밀교전적인 대일경소의 내용과 상당한 유사성이 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 향후 좀더 다양한 문헌의 고찰을 통해 우리나라 선조들의 범자 이해에 대해 살펴보고 싶다.
Despite of many Buddhist works translated into Chinese from Sanskrit, there are very few on the Sanskrit language in Chinese Tripiṭaka. Among the works on Sanskrit language, "Sil-dam-ja-gi(悉曇字記)" is very important to study Sanskrit letters and makes an effect on the late foundation of Sanskrit study, Sil-dam-hak(悉曇學), in Eastern Asia. There are no traces of "Sil-dam-ja-gi" in Korea but we have the similar contents of Sanskrit language in the Korean traditional work. That is a "Sil-dam-jang(悉曇章)" in Korean "Jin-eon-jip". Since the first "Jin-eon-jip" was made in Cho-sun period, the contents of "Sil-dam-jang" are common to the later all "Jin-eon-jip". This paper is to research into the origin and explanation of the Chinese Transliteration of Sanskrit letters in "Sil-dam-jang". As a result of the research, there are common to the rules of the Chinese transliteration between Korean "Jin-eon-jip" and the works of Amoghavajra(不空金剛), the great translater in China. The representative works translated by Amoghavajra are the "Mun-su-mun-kyung-ja -mo-pum(文殊問經子母品)"and"Yu-ga-kum-kang-jung-kyung -suk-ja-mo-pum(瑜伽金剛頂經釋子母品)". Also about the interpretation of the Sanskrit letters, the explanation of "Dae-il-kyung-so" by Il-heng(一行) make an effect to the explanation of the Sil-dam-jang. In "Dae-il-kyung-so", the five vowels of Sanskrit letters(a, ā, aṃ, aḥ, āḥ) are representing the meaning of the Bodhi-citta, the great practice, the accomplishment of Bodhi, the Nirvāṇa and the Skillful Means respectively. These explanations of "Dae-il-kyung-so" are very similar to that of "Sil-dam-jang". About the consonants, there are common explanations between the two. Furthermore, we need more investigation to the resources of the explanation and the meaning of "Sil-dam-jang" in "Jin-eon-jip". |
