Abstract | Recent research into the mind and brain has been bringing together modern science with ancient spiritual practice. For many years, the Dalai Lama has been hosting meetings of scientists and Buddhist scholars to discuss and advance scientific research in this area. Award-winning science editor and writer Sharon Begley documents this work in her recent book, Train Your Mind, Change Your Brain: How a New Science Reveals Our Extraordinary Potential to Transform Ourselves (New York: Ballantine, 2007).
Ms. Begley recently returned to Newsweek as a senior editor and columnist, after writing the "Science Journal" column for the Wall Street Journal for 5 years. Her Newsweek cover stories, "Your Child's Brain," "The Puzzle of Genius," and "Doomsday Science," have earned her a Clarion Award from the Association for Women, the Educational Press Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award, and an Aviation/Space Writers Association Premier Award, respectively. |
