| Abstract | 功德鎧（Gunavarman，另譯求那跋摩，367年生-432年卒）可說是第一位信史意義的馬來西亞佛教史人物，也是公元五世紀初馬來西亞「佛法轉盛」的靈魂人物。本文分別從佛教史與佛學史的角度重建這一歷史，既覆原了功德鎧透過「夜夢化」、「君王皈依化」從而達成一國之「佛教化」的宣教模式，也勾勒出其所傳播為說一切有部之小乘佛學的五停四念之「止染成凈」的禪觀法。這種情況，可能一直維持到公元690年的義凈時代，即「南海諸洲有十余國，純唯根本有部」、「南海諸郡純是小乘」，則功德鎧的佛教史地位更應被正視與承認了。
The paper aims to discover the monk Gunavarman (367 CE - 432 CE) as the pioneer of Buddhistized Kingdoms in the early 5th century of ancient Malaysia. Based on his biographical and scriptural sources found in Chinese Tripitaka, the paper identified Gunavarman’s three steps of Buddhistization of local kingdoms with the doctrine of Aryamulasarvastivadanikaya school from Hinayana Buddhism. The pioneering of Gunavarman’s Buddhistised kingdom probably over 200 years until it was challenged by another new Buddhistization based on Mahayana doctrine at the end of 7th century in the area.
