| Abstract | 이 글은 한국불교 승려들의 기초 교재인 『초발심자경문』에 내포된 선사상을 추출하고 그 특징을 분석하여 한국 선 문헌으로서의 가치를 조명하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 『초발심자경문』을 구성하는 텍스트인 보조 지눌의 「계초심학인문」, 원효의 「발심수행장」, 야운의 「자경문」에서는 선사상이 두드러지거나, 최소한 선종의 관점과 부합하는 내용들을 확인할 수 있다. 「초심」에는 무분별·무집착의 생활상과 선종의 종지인 불립문자 및 정혜쌍수·돈오점수로 대표되는 지눌 선사상의 특징이 나타난다. 「발심」에는 선사상이 직접적으로 드러나는 부분이 없지만, 계율 엄수를 수행의 필수 요건으로 중시하고 존재의 무상과 죽음에 대한 경각심을 일깨워 발심을 촉구하는 것은 선사들의 가르침과 동일하다. 「자경문」에서는 불성의 다른 표현인 ‘주인공’이 등장하며, 간화선 수행에 관한 몽산 덕이의 사상적 영향이 엿보인다. 『초발심자경문』은 지눌의 선풍과 계율 중시 경향, 몽산의 간화선 사상을 포함한다는 점에서 한국선의 정체성과 주요 전통을 파악할 수 있는 문헌이자, 선사상이 한국불교 승가교육의 중심 이념임을 보여주는 체계적인 선 수행 입문서이다.
The purpose of this study is to extract Seon thought in the basic textbook of Korean Buddhist monks, Chobalsimjagyeongmun(CBJM), and analyze their characteristics to illuminate its value as Korean Seon literature. CBJM consists of three texts: Bojo Jinul’s Gyechosimhakinmun(Chosim), Wonhyo’s Balsimsuhaengjang(Balsim) and Yaun’s Jagyeongmun. We can find the contents that stand out or at least match the perspective of Seon school. Chosim includes not only the lifestyle devoid of discrimination and obsession in company with the cardinal meaning of Seon school such as ‘no establishment of words and letters’ but also the characteristics of Jinul’s thought. Although there is no part directly related with Seon thought in Balsim, it is correspond with Seon masters’ teaching to emphasis on observing precepts and encourage arousal of the mind towards enlightenment through alerting to impermanence and death. In Jagyeongmun, another expression of Buddha nature, ‘Juingong’ appears, and Mengshan Deyi’s ideological influence of Ganhwaseon practice is also reflected. CBJM is a literature that can identify the identity and major traditions of Korean Seon, and is a systematic introduction to Seon practice that shows that Seon thought is the main ideology of the education for Korean Buddhist monks. |
