As a thought of Buddhism “Shengsheng” is also an important thought of Confucianism, and is a recognition of Confucians to the world and human beings. Seen from its origin, “shengsheng” in Confucianism is founded on humanity and is of optimistic tendency and joyful connotation, while “shengsheng” in Buddhism is imposed of negative judgment. Therefore, Confucianism focuses on reality while Buddhism focuses on overpassing. Buddhists are willing to devote and praise the existing world because they are optimistic, while Confucians are pessimistic and they tend to be hermits. After the introduction of Buddhism into China, Confucianism rejected it and criticized it for its emptiness and delusiveness. However, Confucianism also learned the features of “shengsheng” from Buddhism.
