In 1995 the Henry Luce Foundation, under its United States-China Cooperative Research Program, offered a three-year grant to Beijing and Yale Universities to encourage the study of Turfan in the United States and to introduce Chinese scholars to the interdisciplinary methods used by Americans. A group of 25 American and Chinese scholars were brought together for a project entitled, "The Silk Road Project: Reuniting Turfan's Scattered Treasures". This article surveys the results of that project, now completed.
