| Abstract | 새 생활 운동은 수도와 생활을 둘로 보지 않고 불법시생활(佛法是生活)을 추구하는 원불교의 생활종교적 면모를 보여주는 운동으로써, 한국 근・현대의 굴곡진 역사 속에서 민중들의 삶을 개선하는 역할을 했다. 이제 이 운동은 우리의 생활이 물질개벽 시대에 놓여 있다는 인식으로부터 그 미래지향적 방향을모색해야 한다. 또한 진리와 수행과 생활이 새로운 관계맺음을 통해 옛 생활을 근본적으로 청산하고 새 생활로의 전환을 추구해야 한다. 나아가 대중들의폭넓은 참여를 위해 각 분야의 시급하면서도 실천 가능한 의제를 발굴하고, 다양한 연대와 협력을 통해 사회적 확산에 노력해야 한다. 이에 본고는 원불교 새 생활 운동의 역사를 정리하고 물질개벽 시대와 새 생활 운동의 의미를고찰한 후, 물질개벽 시대의 관점에서 미래지향적 방향을 모색함으로써 이 운동이 오늘 우리 교단과 사회에 새로운 모습으로 확산될 가능성을 살펴보고자한다.
As Wo n -Buddhism seeks a new religious movement that unifies spiritual practice and Daily Life by putting “Buddhadharma is Daily Life (佛法是生活)” into practice, New Life Movement showed the characteristics of Wo n -Buddhism as a daily life religion. And it played a role in improving the lives of the people in the difficult conditions of modern and contemporary Korea. In order for this movement to gain new vitality today, it is necessary to recognize that our lives are in the Age of Great Opening of Matter. In addition, it is necessary to completely organize old life and pursue a transition to new life through the establishment of a new relationship between Truth, Practice, and Daily Life. Furthermore, urgent and practicable agendas in each field should be discovered for the wide participation of the public. And experts in various fields should strive for social spread by solidarity and cooperation. Accordingly, this paper summarizes the history of Wo n -Buddhism’s New Life Movement, ideologically organizes the meaning of the Great Opening of Matter and New Life, and ponders the forward-looking direction of Wo n - Buddhism’s New Life Movement.
