According to the World Health Organization (WHO, 1948), "health is not merely the absence of disease or infirmity but a complete state of physical, mental, and social well-being." In academic circles, the perspective on health has been defined as holistic health, evolving from five dimensions into eight: social, emotional, physical, intellectual, mental, psychological, occupational, and environmental.
Yang Xing Yan Ming Lu” is an ancient Chinese book on health preservation. This paper aims to explore the study of health preservation ideas philosophy and the logical reasoning and methods of treating diseases through qi-based therapy in this book. The book contains the essence of health preservation from the Huangdi( era to the Wei and Jin() periods, carefully selected and organized by the author to simplify the knowledge, allowing for a quick understanding of the health wisdom and methods of many ancient scholars.
The paper first explores the wisdom of health preservation in “Yang Xing Yan Ming Lu" focusing on concepts related to “Man and Heaven", "Form and Spirit", "Movement and Stillness" and "More and Less", while analyzing the underlying principles of health preservation. Subsequently, it delved into the logical principles of using qi-based therapy to treat diseases and discusses the applications of qi-based health preservation in both prevention and treatment.
Additionally, it involved the understanding and practical applications of "different qi-based therapy methods" to help individuals avoid the threats of various (physical and mental) illnesses in their lives.
Furthermore, the paper delves into the secrets of health preservation and practice.Additionally,
it provides readers with a guide and methods for health practice. Duë to time constraints, this is kept as concise as possible. The aim of this research is to reveal the wisdom contained in "Yang Xing Yan Ming Lu" and promote a preventive healthcare perspective of "treating before the onset of illness", assisting people in achieving physical, mental, and spiritual well-being and balance.
Unhealthy "psychological state" is the most important factor in getting sick. It is also a complex and interrelated core among many factors like human relationship and social culture. It accounts for a significant portion of the imbalances in organ energy caused by stress and emotions, which is what Taoism refers to the disconnection between "form and spirit". When the mind is chaotic, the spirit scatters, and when the spirit scatters, illness arises. Through these qi-based therapy techniques", individuals can shift their mental activities, adjust their physical and spiritual states, and correct pathological symptoms of imbalanced energy. Techniques such as zhu-you (transfer the mantle power for healing), sitting in stillness, qigong, and qi therapy all require the unity of body and mind. With these methods, they can adjust bodily functions, alleviate pain, and enhance immunity to some extent.
