In this article, the author examines the term "qusan (取散), " which appears frequently in Dunhuang literature at the end of ceremonies. While it is possible to interpret the original meaning of the term as "dispersal of the assembly (散會)" or "dispersal of the seat (散座)," examples can be found in Baguanzhai-Jiewen (受八關齋戒文), where the chants used in the Vow for the Reciprocation of Vows are juxtaposed with those used in the Taking of the Dispersal of the Seat. These verses coincide with a series of rhymes known as the "Jiezuo-Wen" (解座文). In addition, the "unseating text" contains a phrase for "listening to" or "receiving" the verse in front of the altar at the end of the ceremony, and then returning home. From this, it can be seen that "取散" is not simply a term for "dismissing" or "dispersing the seat," but is one of a series of rituals similar to "作梵," "押座" and "莊嚴," which are all accompanied by recitation, and the recitation of "取散" may be the so-called "unseating" text. On this basis, the author would like to reiterate that the name "取散偈" is more supported by literature than "解座文." Considering the established names of "押座文," "莊嚴文" and "迴向發願文," the name "取散文" is more appropriate. |
