Abstract《蓮社高賢傳》所載陶淵明與高僧慧遠法師等人結蓮社一事雖與事實不符，但從中仍可反映出淵明對佛教態度的“通性之真實”。他不贊成放棄世俗生活的樂趣入山念佛坐禪，但並不排斥佛教的許多精義。他追求生活與心靈的自由自在，與後來的禪宗宗旨頗切合。由此觀之，他的思想境界比慧遠法師等人要高明得多。
