| Abstract | ‘간화선’은 대혜종고에 의해 완성된 특수한 수행방법이다. 이 방법에 있어서 공안은 의미를 가지지 않는 불가능한 해석을 이야기 한 것으로 이해가 된다. 이러한 공안관의 맹아는 대혜의 스승이었던 원오극근의 사상 가운데 보이지만, 그는 한편으로 공안을 해석한 저술『벽암록』을 남겼다. 여기에는 ‘相続也大難’, ‘血脈不断’이라는 말이 보인다. 이들은 “항상 입장을 전환해 가며, 도중에 끊기는 일 없이 문답을 이어간다.”라고하는 『벽암록』의 공안해석의 태도를 보이고 있다. 이러한 추상적인해석법은 공안에 의미를 두는 해석을 피하면서도, 공안을 이야기하려고 하는 아슬아슬한 방법이라고 말할 수 있을 것이다.
Kanhua chan 看話禪 is a particular training method of Chan Buddhism that was brought to completion by Dahui Zonggao 大慧宗杲. In this method, gong’an are regarded as meaningless and uninterpretable phrases, and the archetype of this view of gong’an is already apparent in the works of his master, Yuanwu Keqin 圜悟克勤. But on the other hand, Yuanwu left a work called Biyanlu 碧巖錄 that interprets gong’an. In this book, we can find the phrases “it is difficult to continue” (相續也大難) and “the blood lineage is not interrupted” (血脈不斷). These phrases show that, when interpreting gong’an, the Biyanlu had a tendency to show an appreciation of monks changing their positions constantly and developing questions and answers without interruption. This abstract interpretation was considered to be a marginally acceptable way of talking about gong’an while avoiding meaningful interpretation. |
