Abstract9－15世紀間居住于新疆及河西走廊地區的回鶻人佛教文化昌盛。在與北方民族（如契丹、黨項、女真、蒙古）的經濟文化交流過程中，回鶻佛教也隨之為這些民族所接受。尤其在蒙古統治時期，回鶻佛僧地位甚高，他們或充當皇帝與藏族喇嘛教帝師之間的翻譯，或充當蒙古皇室貴族的老師，或傳揚弘化佛教，深為蒙古統治者所器重。他們的活動有力地促進了契丹、黨項、女真，尤其是蒙古古代文化的發展。
