| Abstract | 佛教興起數百年之後，才在西元一二世紀產生 了西方淨土信仰。但在印度、中亞，我們幾乎沒有發現有關西方淨土信仰的文獻資料和實物 資料。在中國，西方淨土經典早在二世紀時就有漢譯本，而明確的西方淨土信仰開始於4世 紀，從5世紀起普遍流行於僧俗間，西方淨土信仰成為中國佛教的主要特色之一。敦煌的西方淨土圖像晚于中原，但在唐宋時期卻成為繪制最多的一種圖像，敦煌有關西方淨 土的文獻資料和圖像資料有助於我們瞭解西方淨土信仰的具體形態。本文比較全 面地介紹了敦煌西方凈土信仰的基本資料和研究史。
The quest for a Pure Land is a theme found in the ancient culture of Dunhuang Mogao Caves. It is a dream many people can relate to, either because the y (or their acquaintances) also long for a better land, or because they so despa ir of finding fulfillment in the present that they feel compelled to place their faith in a better life after death. A major expression of this hope for a land which would transcend and free people from the pain of the present is the develo pment of Pure Land devotionalism in East Asian Buddhism which entered on the Wes tern Pure Land of Amitābha Buddha. Based on the manuscripts found the Libr ary Cave (no.17) and the paintings seen in Dunhuang Mogao Caves, the conclusion can be reached that the date of appearance of worship and related iconography of Western Pure Land in Dunhuang can be dated to 5-6 centuries. It is later than ones of Central China, but it is more popular than other place s in the Tang and Song Dynasties. |
