| Abstract | A collection of five original studies -- based on recently discovered or previously neglected Chinese, Japanese, and Tibetan texts -- of the history, thought and practice of the early Ch'an (Zen) and Hua-yen (Kegon) traditions of east Asian Buddhism. The purpose of the collection is to communicate -- largely to other specialists -- recent developments in Buddhist scholarship leading to a reassessment of these two schools. |
