Abstract根據中央美術學院教授，金維諾氏分析山西省遺存的唐遼宋元佛教造像，精華紛呈。統計保存下來的晚唐彩塑計82尊，五代11尊，宋、遼、金時期的360尊，元代的267尊，明清兩代多達8300餘尊，各代彩塑形成系列，與早期的石窟彩塑承先啟後，首尾貫接，山西彩塑具體呈現無法取代的藝術地位。本書依年代發展次序，輯有383件彩色圖版，收錄山西省14間主要佛寺的彩塑造像，書末所附山西佛寺簡介、年代，彩塑塑造過程，中國古代顏料與彩塑，各篇極具參考價值。
