AbstractThe article examines the biography of Liang dynasty monk Baochang in China. It reconstructs the chronology of events in Baochang's life, focusing on his relationship with Emperor Wu. It discusses the important clues about the Mingseng zhuan's date of completion embedded in the biography. It also tackles the authorship of the "Biographies of Nuns" which is traditionally ascribed to Baochang.
