Abstract對於初期大乘佛教之起源,日本學者平川彰提出大乘「在家佛塔教團起源說」,其主要的立論根據之一就是大乘與部派教團不能共住【本文簡稱「大、小不共住」】,亦即大乘與部派教團,從戒律上、思想上、經濟生活上、修行上來看,兩者不能共住。平川認為著同一僧團者必須持守共同的戒律,在同部律藏的規定下共同說戒羯磨、共行僧事;羯磨只能自部派比丘,異部派比丘不能共同說戒羯磨,布薩日入別部眾失比丘資格;又以共同羯磨的現前僧伽分裂成對立的二派比丘,各自行羯磨,謂之破僧,破僧罪重等等,所以異部派不能共住,大乘也不能與部派共住。本文筆者欲以平川之「大、小不共住說」為中心,輔以佐佐木閑博士對其之反論,考察初期大乘佛教教團的實態。首先以《異部宗輪論》中之部派分裂史料,及碑銘資料中之部派相關寄贈碑文,考察西元前後,相當於初期大乘時期之部派教團實態;看其是否在當時佛教教團佔有絕對之優勢?接著以《律藏》〈布薩法〉、〈俱舍彌法〉為主要文獻資料,考察異部派共說戒羯磨、共行僧事等相關問題;了解異部共說戒羯磨、共行僧事,乃至破僧及部派分裂等問題。最後再引初期大乘經典,從中窺探初期大乘時代之大乘出家菩薩與傳統佛教比丘共住的情形。希望藉此考察,能窺知初期大乘教團真相之一、二。
