Abstract幕藩体制下、浄土宗の僧侶のなかに「捨世派」と称される念仏者たちがいた。彼らは出世を捨て、寺院仏教の周縁で信仰復興運動をした近世の念仏聖である。江戸中期の捨世派僧、無能が行った布教の足跡を、民衆との信仰的なかかわりのなかで考察。非浄土系寺院が多数を占める東北での念仏勧化に注目し、脱体制念仏聖の近世的性格とその意義を解明する。
