Abstract本文依據佛教哲理,敘述中印自古以來對圓相造型的意
識型態,並說明溈仰宗以圓相表達禪道的方法。中國在史前
時期已用圓圈圈來構圖,圓形圖案並散見於殷商與周代的
器銘、秦漢建築瓦當與銅鏡等。唐代圓形紋飾普遍用於貴
族到平民各階層;宋代周敦頤提出「太極圖說」;宋代以來
器皿皆以圓的造型,圓形圖案更不勝枚舉,顯示圓造形從意
識型態到一般日用,已發揮得淋漓盡致。印度供養佛舍利的
佛塔為傘狀,或半球型覆缽式的塔,象徵圓滿。阿育王時代
遺留下來的阿育王柱,柱頭刻有圓的「法輪」表現佛法體用
的內涵。此外諸如禮拜實踐等動作、建築構圖、雕刻壁畫等
藝術創作,亦常見圓的造型。中華禪自六祖門下有多位禪師
借用圓相來表達禪理,諸如:南陽慧忠、南泉普願、圭峰宗
密、仰山慧寂、曹山本寂等。尤其仰山慧寂善用畫圓來闡揚
禪意,成溈仰宗的一大特徵,故溈仰宗亦稱圓宗。
