AbstractMy commentary treats four central themes (thinking, being, history, and language) in an effort to reach a more technical level where some differences between Heidegger and the east may appear. I compare Heidegger's concept of thinking to Zen intuition and his concept of being to the Buddhist emptiness. Finally,I attempt to apply his methodology to the history of Buddhism and to Sanskrit philosophical terms in order to show that the areas of history and language may be repositories of basic experiences in the eastern traditions.
