Abstract淨土是大乘運動的重要理念,佛教「空義」的社會關懷,在大乘思想中,有進一步的發展. 六婆羅蜜,十善道等教義,是要落實到實際的社會實踐,「緣起性空」的原則,亦適用於社會氛圍的淨化,因此般若空慧與淨土思想有密切關係.

雖佛教亦有他方世界的淨土觀,然而般若經典所彰顯的淨土,是以「菩薩行」為基礎的淨土觀. 因菩薩功德的具體落實於社會,故其淨土應是立基於人間,與眾生不斷地進行對話.

《大智度論》說《大品般若經》空義十喻中的揵闥婆城喻,是大乘教義所獨有的. 揵闥婆城喻可以說明淨土的「因緣和合」,淨土是由菩薩功德,眾生,眾生功德合和而成的.

淨土是因緣和合而成,故須不斷地開發,菩薩菩薩「自行六波羅蜜,亦教他人令行,共清淨因緣」,故「佛土清淨」. 淨土是因緣和合而成的觀點,仍被鳩摩羅什,僧肇等所繼承,般若系的淨土觀,與諸法皆因緣和合而成的論旨,密切地關連著,行六度不僅是悟了空義,而是以淨化環境為職志,故具深刻的社會關懷.
