Abstract | Using examples of Korean Buddhist art on view at the Japan Society and other comparative examples in Korean collections, the author demonstrates that Korea did not accept Buddhism passively but, with a clear sense of its own identity,it created its own unique iconography and styles, and further deepened and expanded on Chinese Buddhist art influences. |
