Abstract頓悟成佛論是惠能南宗禪學思想的重要組成部分﹐也是惠能將佛教禪學的中國化推向極至﹐以與印度禪相區別的顯著標誌. 惠能繼承了東山法門中頓悟心性的傾向﹐并在以般若釋心性的同時﹐將其發展為置于不假漸修的基礎之上﹐從而形成了自己鮮明的特色﹐既與東山門下各系明顯地區分了出來﹐又開創了中國禪的新階段. 惠能所說的成佛﹐其實祗是一種主觀精神上覺悟和超脫的境界﹐并不脫離眾生世間和世俗的生活. 惠能通過融攝般若學和佛性論﹐以人們的當下之心為依持﹐把禪修﹑悟境與日常生活結合在一起﹐使出世的佛教立足于現實的土地上﹐開出了東山法門的新義﹐促成了南宗禪在全國的傳播。
