AbstractIn the first volume Stcherbatsky deals not only from a philological, but also from a philosophical point of view, with numerous philosophical and logical topics. Amongst the latter, judgment, inference, syllogism, fallacies, negation, the law of contradiction and universals may be mentioned. Stcherbatsky has established from Buddhist logic the invalidity of the two prejudices he mentions in his preface:"that positive philosophy is to be found only in Europe" and "that Aristotle's treatment of logic was final." whereas the second view is now universally rejected,European philosophers seem to be reluctant to recognise the invalidity of the first.
