Abstract | 台灣佛教近20年來在台灣蓬勃發展,不少佛教團體積極參與社會慈善福利工作,而女性信徒蔚為主力(如慈濟,佛光山,農禪寺),她們一方面發揮傳統女性付出與照顧的角色特質,轉化為佛教慈悲關懷的利他實踐,而擴展其在社會的行動空間;另一方面也影響引導家人加入此類佛教團體'進而塑造此宗教團體的家庭屬性和「大家庭」象徵. 本文以「家庭宗教化」和「宗教家庭化」兩個概念來討論現代佛教與民眾生活結合的趨勢,而女性的信仰實踐為一重要媒介.
本文研究資料以筆者在慈濟功德會五年的田野研究為主,資料來源主為參與觀察所得,並參考佛教團體的出版品. 筆者將首先敘述佛教在家女性信眾,在何種社會和家庭背景下,參與佛教團體的慈善服務,又如何從「一人參與」變成「全家參與」. 其中牽涉多項因素如:(1)「人間佛教」的中心教義和實踐直指家庭倫理的重建;其「孝順」與「人和」的倫理最被具體強調;(2)女性慈愛包容的母親角色扮演泛化為團體的道德律,對男性信眾具指引力量,在服務的組織網絡關係上女性亦為主導力量;(3)現代家庭功能薄弱,此宗教團體的認同有助滿足現代人的心理歸屬需求,並改善家庭人際關係.
Summary Over the past twenty years, Buddhism has developed rapidly in Taiwan. Many Buddhist groups participate actively in charity work,and female believers are the driving force behind these activities. On the one hand,these women translate the giving and caring qualities of traditional female roles into Buddhist mercy and altruism,expanding their range of activity in society;on the other hand,they also encourage other family members to join Buddhist groups, thus giving family attributes to these organizations. The present paper discusses the trend toward integration of modern Buddhism and public life in terms of both the influence of religion on the family and the influence of the family on religion,focusing on the important medium of Buddhist women's religious practice.
The research data used in this paper comes mainly from the author's five years of fieldwork with the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Association,as well as the publications of this organization. The author first discusses female Buddhist believers in the family,describing the social and family conditions under which they participate in Buddhist charity activities, as well as the manner in which individual participation transforms into family participation.
