Abstract李弘在道教中的地位,和彌勒佛在佛教中的地位很接近. 李弘將取代道教最高領袖元始天尊,太上老君等人,而成道教新領袖 -- 後聖; 彌勒則是即將接替釋迦而成佛界新佛. 二者都是未來道教仙界和佛教新佛國中的領袖人物,二者都有濟民救世的弘願. 唯一的差別,在李弘是末世應劫,出世渡民; 而彌勒則是在閻浮提人開始積累甚多善行後,才下世說法渡眾,並非應劫而來. 由於二者的神格相近者多,所以很自然的李弘的「應劫救世」觀念,也就被轉移到彌勒的身上來. 漢末六朝間聚眾叛亂者,常假借李弘救劫之名以造反,隋唐而後則逐漸被彌勒救世說所取代; 唐宋後彌勒應劫救民,更成民間宗教的普遍信仰. 本文即就史料引論彌勒的末卻救世觀念,是受道教李弘信仰影響而來.
